In collaboration with international partners, we have launched a new project called LUCID – Data Intelligence for Cities and Urban Logistics, which focuses on one of the biggest challenges in urban mobility today: how to get more goods and people to the right place, faster and more sustainably. And we have the answer – smart data and efficient planning.
The project involves partners from across Europe; CITET, Oraha 7, Las Rozas Innova, PowerHUB, Citylogin Iberica and Routal Tech, each bringing unique expertise in urban logistics, data analytics and sustainable transport.
What is the goal?
LUCID equips independent drivers and cities with tools to help them better plan routes, save fuel and reduce their ecological footprint. By integrating live traffic data, eco-routing, and analysis of city regulations, we help drivers and cities make smarter and more responsible decisions.
Why are we doing this?
- Traffic in cities accounts for up to 25% of CO₂ emissions.
- Inefficient route planning lengthens journeys and increases costs.
- Congestion and delays reduce the quality of life in cities.
Our solution
The solution is the Routal for Drivers mobile app, which uses advanced algorithms to suggest the most efficient and environmentally friendly route. Pilot testing will take place in selected cities and will track savings in fuel consumption, mileage and CO₂ emissions.
Measurable benefits
- 12–15% reduction in fuel consumption
- Cost savings for drivers of up to 10%
- Supporting data-driven transport planning for cities
Our vision
LUCID is the next step towards more sustainable, efficient and inclusive urban transport. The project is fully aligned with the strategic objectives of EIT Urban Mobility – promoting behavioural change in transport, improving the quality of life in cities and paving the way for scalable solutions across Europe.
We are proud to be part of this change. We can already see that the combination of technology, data and local expertise has huge potential to change the way we move around cities – and we are ready to be there.
